Governance

Food Banks Alberta, as an association, provides leadership on issues of hunger and food insecurity. We are led by a group of skilled and passionate Albertans.

Our leadership is committed to supporting the work of Food Banks Alberta, as we engage with food banks, offer supportive services and resources, and share the work we do with donors and the community.

Together, We Can End Hunger in Alberta

Our board of directors is made up of volunteers who are elected annually, and they bring a wealth of wisdom and experience to the work we do. Strong governance is essential for a bold vision and cohesive team.

Strategic Plan

 Lead

Serve the Membership Through Change:

We will work towards achieving innovative leadership through community, collaboration, and communication. We will measure our success through membership engagement through the following actions:

  • Listen, anticipate and respond to our memberships needs and concerns.
  • Be the conduit for networking between the Provincial Government and our members.·
  • Monitor board governance, including reviewing and revising the bylaws and membership criteria
  • Position FBA as a thought leader in the food security movement.

Feed

Increase the quality and quantity of the food procured and distributed to our membership:

We will anticipate the rise and diversity of membership needs and respond accordingly. We will measure our success through increased volume/diversity of food and efficiency of its transportation through the following actions:

  • Improve operational logistics to support efficiency
  •  Develop food insecurity planning, initiatives, and programs
  • Secure food variety to reflect the needs of our membership’s clientele
  • Develop partnerships to access large scale food sources.
  • Encourage Volunteerism

Share

Communicate, Collaborate and Create opportunities for connection

Our actions will empower our membership through best practice sharing and reducing barriers to access fresh and diverse food. We will measure our success by new member offerings, improved communications and implementation of network ideas through the following actions:

  •  Increase benefits to FBA membership
  • Navigate Standards of Excellence and develop tools and templates that respond to the needs of our membership.
  • Celebrate our collective impact/successes

We Are Committed

Food Banks Alberta is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability, operationally and fiscally. We are a trusted voice for the food banks in Alberta and take our leadership role and the significance of the problems we are addressing seriously. We do this through:

  • Audited Financial Statements: Every year, FBA appoints an external professional accounting firm to complete a vigorous review of our financial processes and position. The results of this audit are made available publicly for our members and supporters.
  • Financial Statements: The FBA Board of Directors reviews and approves our financial picture monthly. Additional financial stewardship is provided through the FBA Board Finance Committee.
  • Operational Excellence: Our team strives to work as effectively and efficiently as possible by continually seeking best practices to improve our processes and responses. Our policies and procedures are continually reviewed and updated to reflect our changing environment.

We want our members and donors to be confident in the work we do and assured that we are using our resources in the best manner possible. If you have any questions about what we do or how we do it, please feel free to contact our Board President or Executive Director.

Our financial statements are thoroughly reviewed and available to the public annually.
