Walmart donation helps Alberta food banks

Adobe SparkThe Walmart Foundation has donated $2.6 million dollars to support Food Banks Canada’s retail capacity building grant for food banks across Canada. This is in addition to a $2 million dollar grant, previously received from the Walmart Foundation.

Capacity building grants allow food banks to support their clients by developing infrastructure and purchasing equipment for better storage, transport and accessibility of fresh & perishable foods.

Two food banks in Alberta, the Airdrie Food Bank and Interfaith Lethbridge Food Bank, are recipients of Food Bank Canada’s capacity building grants.

Thanks to the purchase of a used one-ton truck, the Airdrie Food Bank will be able to pick up and drop-off food more effectively.

The Interfaith Lethbridge Food Bank will be able to upgrade their loading dock, allowing them to accept and donate more food as well as helping to support a pilot project establishing their food bank as a southern food hub for Alberta.
