Why volunteer with Food Banks Alberta?

As a charity with a small staff team, we rely on volunteer groups and individuals to help us efficiently and effectively provide a wide range of support to our provincial network of 113 food banks.

Volunteers are needed year-round, and we welcome as little or as much time as you can give.

Volunteer as a Team

Volunteer as a Team

We invite organizations, companies, and groups to experience the rewarding impact of team volunteering! It’s an excellent opportunity to build team spirit and make a meaningful difference in the community.

By sending teams of 3-12 staff members to our Leduc warehouse, your organization can directly contribute to alleviating food insecurity.

Together, you can transform lives, providing essential support to those in need while strengthening your team’s bond.

Volunteer as an Individual

We welcome invite individuals passionate about making a difference to join our volunteer team.

Volunteering with Food Banks Alberta is not just about giving back—it’s also a valuable opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, learn new skills, and actively contribute to your community’s well-being.

Volunteering as a Lifestyle

“It has always been important to me to include my daughters in volunteering opportunities with me. I want them to grow up knowing they can make a positive impact in our community and also see how much work gets done behind the scenes by committed volunteers. As soon as they were old enough, we have been volunteering at our local food bank. It has been so rewarding, and we always leave feeling like it was the best evening ever.”

Other Ways to Volunteer in Support of Food Security

Food Drives

Collect non-perishable food donations from your friends, colleagues, or community members to help your local food bank keep their warehouses full.

Community Garden Initiatives

Food banks can accept perishable food items such as donations from a community garden. Contact your local food bank for information about how you can contribute.

Advocacy

Use your voice! Hunger and food insecurity are largely hidden challenges. Most people are unaware of how prevalent these challenges are for people in Alberta. It’s important that we spread the word on how people can help end hunger in our province.
