Food Banks Canada Standards of Excellence Program

Food Banks Alberta is dedicated to operating with the highest levels of transparency and accountability. As part of this commitment, all member food banks are actively working towards accreditation under Food Banks Canada’s Standards of Excellence Program.

This accreditation process establishes a foundational set of principles that guide our network, ensuring consistent quality and continuous improvement in the services we deliver across Alberta’s communities.

The Blueprint for Excellence in Food Banking

The Standards of Excellence provide comprehensive guidance across key operational areas, ensuring that Food Bank Alberta members achieve the highest levels of service and accountability. These standards cover:

  • Governance & Administration: Strengthening organizational leadership and compliance.
  • People Management: Enhancing the recruitment, training, and retention of staff and volunteers.
  • Financial & Legal: Ensuring fiscal responsibility and legal integrity.
  • Client Service & Care: Prioritizing dignity, accessibility, and respect in client interactions.
