Albertans are known for their generosity and have always supported their neighbours through food donations and funding to their community food banks. However, with the rapidly increasing living costs, food banks are compelled to serve more and more with less and less. Food Banks Alberta supplements community donations with bulk shipments of donated food and products to food banks throughout the province. Food Banks Alberta secures large-scale donations through our provincial and national partnerships and distributes them to the places of greatest need. These monthly allotments can include everything from fresh, frozen and canned goods and help food banks stretch their existing community resources to meet the need.
Many food banks in Alberta are small organizations making a big impact. We supplement their staff and volunteer efforts by assisting in processes and procedures to ensure our smallest members' continued operational health and sustainability.
· Linkages to National and Provincial Governments, Organizations, and Donors
Every day, community food banks open their doors, turn on their lights and start their trucks to support hungry Albertans, but they need money to do this. At FBA we connect food banks to valuable grant and funding opportunities supporting their operations. This is especially important for smaller rural and remote food banks which face higher costs for operations and transportation and fewer opportunities to access large-scale donations and funders.
Food Banks in Alberta serve their clients and communities with generosity and compassion, but they also support one another with the same kindness of spirit. Food Banks Alberta provides the communications and logistics for food banks across the provinces to share food and resources with one another. This allows food banks that have too much of one item to share with another food bank that doesn’t have enough. In this way, food wastage is decreased, and every item can reach the hands of those who need it the most.
Many food banks in Alberta are small offices with big impact, run by volunteers. We support their administrative efforts.
Our programs & services help food banks maximize their impact through bulk purchase subsidies and assisting rural communities in accessing and moving food.
Food Banks in Alberta embody the ideal of making the most out of what you have been given. Through the generosity of everyday Albertans and the support of corporate and government partners, we can continue doing what needs to be done to address food insecurity in our communities with consideration, compassion, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Through donations of food, Albertans show their commitment to feeding their neighbours. Every can and box we receive is placed into the hands of someone who truly needs it.
Through monetary donations, our partners show their commitment to support the organizations that work tirelessly on behalf of those in need. Food banks rely on the generosity of Albertans to cool our freezers, heat our warehouses, and fuel our trucks.
