Food Banks Alberta will receive a $150,000 donation from the Peter Gilgan Foundation, to support the work of the provincial association and their member network of 95 food bank across the province, as they provide assistance to a growing number of people in need throughout Alberta communities.
‘The aid provided by the Peter Gilgan Foundation, is imperative to help the network as food banks continue to see increased demands, while often working with limited resources especially during challenging times such as these.’ Said Arianna Johnson, Food Banks Alberta Senior Project Manager “This donation of funds will be used to help pay for food and operations related to COVID, as the association works to purchase, and move food throughout our network of food banks across the province’
The Peter Gilgan Foundation allocated remaining grant funds for the year to a COVID-19 rapid response fund which identified food scarcity & security as areas most in need of support, and organizations like Food Banks Alberta working to address those needs.
‘COVID-19 has upended the lives of Canadians in innumerable ways. We believe it is our responsibility to use our resources for the benefit of others, and have heard from many of our charitable partners that the need for food scarcity relief has never been higher. We know that Food Banks of Alberta will ensure that those most vulnerable receive quality food, when and where they need it most. It is an honour and a privilege to be able to provide this funding, and we know that all Canadians will get through this together.” Said Luke Gilgan, Peter Gilgan Foundation Manger.
