Rodney Dennis: Communications Assistant
Rodney started as a summer student at Food Banks Alberta, and will be staying on part-time as a Communications Associate. His key responsibilities are editing, creating web content, research, and helping manage the social media accounts. He has a Bachelor of Communication Studies degree, and he will be entering a Paralegal Studies program this fall.
We asked Rodney what he’s learned from working with Food Banks Alberta this past summer.
What’s something everyone should know about food banking?
One thing I’ve learned is that many families struggle during the summer months. Donations are really needed to support kids through this time. I’ve also learned just how much work and careful planning is required to make food banks run. It’s inspiring to see everything that the staff, donors and volunteers do to support food banks.
How do you like working for a nonprofit?
It’s a great experience! I feel good about doing work that makes a positive difference for others, especially for people that are really struggling. In the future, I hope to continue working in positions that help others.
